A Brief History

SUPERMOTO USA

A BRIEF HISTORY

Originally developed during the late Seventies and early Eighties for ABC’s Wide World of Sports and was called the “Superbikers”. A clever way to familiarize the American viewing public with motorcycle racing. Television executives had witnessed the success of the IROC Race series for Auto racers of different disciplines racing in a series to determine who was the best of the best, and thought “ hey, lets try it with motorcycles”.

The concept took off in Europe and is really getting a strong foothold here in the States the last few years. This was even featured at the XGAMES for 2 years now, on network TV, as well as being broadcast regularly on the OLN network, for 3 seasons now.

Racing of this type attracts competitors ranging from the Flat Tracker who no longer have many venues to race at, to people who cannot afford the expense of road racing and even the curious dirt biker! The Classes range from the bone stock Motocrosser to the specialized Supermoto Machines.

Affordable racing and anyone can play! The rules are kept simple, as are the classes. There are also a variety of Mini classes for both adults and the kids too!

The Racecourse is usually 75% asphalt and 25% dirt, incorporating both left and right hand turns and at least one jump. The race facilities that w incorporate in our program are as diverse as our riders. Utilizing venues that will vary from custom designed parking lot courses, to modified karting facilities, and even high speed road racecourses!

Yep! Supermoto Racing is gaining momentum in the Northern California area, as is evident by the increase in races from the 7 races held in our series in 2001, to the 15 race series that took place for the 2005 season in three separate states (California Nevada and Oregon). This year we are featuring 10 weekends of racing that once again will be taking place in Northern California, Nevada and Oregon!

Previously, Supermoto USA has been a featured attraction at events like Motorfest in 2003 that was a huge event that took over the entire Arco Arena, and was featured on SPEEDVISION, and was attended by over 30,00 spectators. This year we are even a featured attraction at the opening round of the 2006 AMA Superbike Series at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Ca. that was attended by over 25,000 spectators. This fall Supermoto USA will also be included in the Season Finale Grand National Stock Car event that will be taking place at the New Altamont Motorsports Park. The Grand National will be televised LIVE! On HDTV, and tape delayed broadcast on SPEEDVISION, and is an expected sellout.

During the last few years our ridership has doubled, and the quality of the racing continues to improve. We have even added Supermoto Race Schools to our schedule to help improve the safety and quality of the race experience for the new, and / or curious rider. The race day program gets smoother, and our staff is on par with the finest of race organizations anywhere.

We always welcome input that will improve the racing for our riders, their families, our sponsors, and especially our growing legion of fans. Yep! Things are lookin’ good!

Get some food. Get something to drink. Grab a seat and Hang On!

The Family of Supermoto USA Welcomes you !
